The climate in Stockholm

Stockholm has four seasons and everyone has its own charm.

The recent years have brought heavy snowfalls in the city, even downtown and in January and February the weather can be pretty erratic.

Snowstorms, cold weather and bright sunshine or rain and sleet in milder temperatures is not unusual. Even thought the latter is more common during March.

Spring

The spring starts to break its way into nature in April, and a month later when the temperature is rising, the trees and the flowers together with all the city’s outdoor cafés starts to blossom.

Summer

June to August is the months when summer hits and stays in the capital.

At the summer solstice in late June, around the midsummer period, the daylight is extending beyond 18 hours.

It is never completely dark between mid June and mid July.

Autumn

In September the autumn is slowly making its way into the city and the trees changes colors from green to bright red and yellow.

It is bit colder, but still there are some beautiful sunny and crisp days to explore the town in late September and October even though rain is common.

Towards winter

The weather gets colder and more erratic again in November and December.

Also the daylight is getting shorter and shorter and during the winter solstice in late December the daylight is only visible for about 6 hours.

The annual hours of sun in Stockholm is usually over 1800, even though they are unevenly distributed over the whole year.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Stockholm was +38°C (+102°F) and the lowest was -32°C (-26°F).

Winter: from +2 to - 7C (36 to 19F)

Spring: between +5 and 15C (41 to 59F)

Summer: 20-25C (68 to 77F) or warmer

Autumn: between +5 and 18C (41 to 64F)
